“I stopped to photograph a small grassy pond, and was using a wide-angle zoom lens at the time, when I noticed some movement. Quickly switching to a 300mm f/4 lens on my Canon 30D, and using a monopod for support, I again saw movement, when a flash of red rose slowly above the golden grass. While the Sandhill Cranes (Grus canadensis) were still on the ground, I was able to get a couple of photographs. Then suddenly, they leapt into the air, flying away as I continued shooting. In all, I was able to capture about 12 frames.” |
